Who it is for

Mid to senior technical professionals, such as solution architects, AI and ML engineers and technical leads. Three or more years in systems architecture, and six months or more of hands-on work with Claude or a comparable LLM system in production.

What it covers

Seven domains, with Integration the heaviest at 19%. The rest run from solution design through evaluation to governance and working with stakeholders.

It is the only exam of the four with three question types: multiple choice, multiple response, and a scenario-matching type with drop-downs.

How it differs from the Foundations exam

A published review by someone who passed both says this exam does not ask which flag or which parameter value. It asks which design to choose, and why.

That reviewer found it easier than CCAR-F and thinks the two difficulty levels are the wrong way round. Read that as one experienced architect’s view. He also says he already knew the design patterns it tests, such as prompt caching, context window management and RAG pipeline design.

Remember: The name says Professional, but the review rates it easier to pass than the Foundations exam for someone with that background. The label is not a measure of difficulty.

There is no official practice exam for it. The exam guide holds three sample questions.

Where I am

I have not started this one. The suggested order puts it after the two Foundations exams, because it rewards judgement built up over time and not fresh memorising.
